- Typical recruitment is risk averse. ie, employers prefer someone who has worked in a very similar position earlier rather than take a risk on a newcomer / a person who has potential.
- Experience carries much much more weight than academic qualifications
- If you go through an agent, the recruitment process can be quite long. So don't go exclusively through one agency, but hedge your bets
- Most employers do check references, even if your referees are overseas.
- Don't shun contract work, as contract could be renewed for extended periods of time.
- Very little recruitment happens from November to January in professional services."
